The Erasmus+ project presents its key results, including an innovative online training platform, practical learning resources and a European framework to improve digital skills and cybersecurity awareness in the tourism sector.
The TREADS e-learning platform is now available, providing tourism professionals, SMEs, vocational education providers and learners with accessible training on tourism resilience and digital security.
15 October 2026 – As the European project TREADS (Tourism Resilience Education in Digital Security) approaches its final stage, its international consortium is highlighting the achievements of an initiative designed to strengthen the digital capabilities, cybersecurity awareness and resilience of the European tourism sector. Co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme, TREADS has brought together six organisations from Spain, Italy, Greece and Slovenia, combining expertise in vocational education and training (VET), tourism, digital technologies and innovation.
Throughout its implementation, the project has focused on addressing the growing need for digital skills and security awareness in an industry increasingly dependent on technology. By developing innovative educational resources, identifying European best practices and promoting international cooperation, TREADS has contributed to making tourism education more relevant, accessible and responsive to emerging challenges. Among its most significant achievements is the development and launch of the TREADS e-learning platform, a digital learning environment designed to support the continuous professional development of tourism stakeholders across Europe.
The TREADS e-learning platform: a key result for the future of tourism education
The launch of the TREADS e-learning platform represents one of the project’s most important milestones and a central element of its long-term impact. The platform provides a dedicated digital learning environment where tourism professionals, educators, students, SMEs and microenterprises can access training materials specifically designed to strengthen resilience and digital security in the tourism industry. The learning programme is structured around two main training areas:
- Tourism Resilience: Focused on strengthening the capacity of tourism professionals and organisations to adapt to changing circumstances, anticipate challenges, manage risks and develop more resilient approaches to tourism activities.
- Digital Security in Tourism: Designed to increase awareness of digital threats, promote cybersecurity knowledge and encourage safer practices when using digital technologies and managing information in tourism environments.
The training resources have been developed with a practical, flexible and learner-centred approach, taking into account the needs of the tourism sector and the diversity of its professional profiles. Through modular learning materials, the platform supports self-paced learning and provides VET educators with resources that can be incorporated into existing training programmes or adapted to different educational contexts.
The platform also responds to the specific challenges faced by small tourism businesses, which often have limited access to specialised digital security training despite their increasing reliance on online services, digital booking systems and data-driven operations. By bringing these educational resources together in a single digital environment, TREADS facilitates access to relevant knowledge and supports lifelong learning beyond the project’s implementation period.

From research and good practices to concrete educational results
The development of the e-learning platform forms part of a broader set of outcomes achieved through the collaborative work of the TREADS consortium. During the project, partners have worked on identifying educational needs, collecting existing best practices and designing innovative approaches to vocational education and training in the tourism sector.
One of the first major results was the identification and selection of European good practices in vocational education and training, with particular attention to digital transformation, educational innovation, employability and resilience. This work has supported the preparation of a Good Practices Handbook and a digital resource pool bringing together relevant educational materials, research, case studies and other resources that can support educators, training organisations and tourism stakeholders.
Another important achievement has been the development of a European competence profile and associated training plan for tourism professionals equipped with digital skills and an understanding of emerging risks. Designed with reference to European vocational education frameworks, these resources aim to help training providers incorporate resilience and digital security competences into their educational programmes, supporting greater consistency, adaptability and transferability across European countries.
Together, these outputs provide an educational foundation for the TREADS learning programme and contribute to improving the ability of vocational training organisations to respond to the evolving needs of the tourism labour market.
International cooperation and dissemination across Europe
Alongside the development of its educational resources, TREADS has promoted cooperation and knowledge exchange among tourism professionals, vocational training organisations, technology specialists and other relevant stakeholders. Throughout the project, the consortium has organised international partner meetings, workshops, dissemination activities and multiplier events to share progress, present results and raise awareness of the importance of digital resilience in tourism.
These activities have taken place across the participating countries, encouraging dialogue on emerging digital challenges, cybersecurity awareness and innovative training methodologies. Events have contributed to increasing the visibility of TREADS and encouraging stakeholders to consider how its educational resources can be applied in professional and training environments.
About the TREADS project
TREADS is an Erasmus+ European cooperation project bringing together six organisations from four countries: CDEA – Centro de Formación de Administración y Hosteleria SL as coordinator and GAIA (Spain), Fondazione Enaip Lombardia (Italy), Travel2Fit and Atlantis Engineering (Greece), and Arctur (Slovenia).
The project aimed to modernise vocational education and training for the tourism sector by strengthening digital competences, cybersecurity awareness and resilience through innovative methodologies, educational materials and digital learning tools.
